I am a shop-a-holic. I'm obsessed. I can shop ANYWHERE. What really excites me when I visit a new place are the streets. The colours that the locals use on their walls, their furniture, their clothes and even their make up! What really irritates me is my new size.. (when some of these yummy colours make me look li'l chubby!) Yes, I am guilty of packing up 10 kilos since last year. So I live in a very forgiving city-Bombay! I grew up here befriended people from all sects, sex and sizes!
My friends and I grew up through school, college and first jobs...fluctuating all along- fat-thin-thinner-a little bloated (i think im pmsing)-fat again.
All along never judging and still enjoying that chocolate avalanche every now and then.
This brings me to my recent trip to Delhi where half my family resides. Some of my delhi girlfriends who were a bit overweight but lots of fun then, now married , bony and perfect with their everlasting blow-dried hair , Chanel shades, a huge monogrammed bag and an extra pair of Jimmy Choos at the back seat of their new chauffeur driven mercedes benz (just in case....).
Don't get me wrong, I don't judge these women on their lifestyle. But I just wonder sometimes... isn't it really hard being that perfect? The perfect wife, the perfect host at your mother-in-law's kitty and the perfect mother at the perfect age with the oh-so-perfect body!
Like I said earlier, I am really used to this forgiving city where I could be chauffeur driven to work one day and travel by train the next. I never have to bother if my friends would accept me for not throwing that stylish bash at a beautiful farmhouse/five star on my 28th birthday or the fact that I'm still not "married well" at this age!
So I do get a bit prejudiced towards the capital in spite of its beautiful homes and sprawling lawns, when people categorise women into "career type girl" and "homely girl". I mean WTF!
I want to show these so-called perfect girls what it feels like to take charge of your life irrespective of what your social circle would say.
Girls let your hair down, dig into that cheeseburger and dance like no one is watching! Live.

Ello ello,
ReplyDeleteThe boredom has rought about some postive change. Now I seriously wouldn't mindgetting a pay cheque at the end of the month for blogging - Delhi or Bombay
good read
ReplyDeleteyou are totally right, my child.. we mumbaikars wouldn't ever be able to adjust to the psyche of a delhiite!! simply because we think nobody's perfect while they think they are :P
ReplyDeleteplease excuse the copy errors...it's my first time...hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! though am married but why does everything have to be on a schedule?!?!
ReplyDeleteI miss my forgiving city!!
While our city is quite a 'do what you want place for some', it is quite different for others and while i am extremely biased twords bbay i do believe that it has its share of Delhiness that you have described.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Bombay does have the reputaion of not caring so much..all part of being 'bindaas in bombay' and the best part about this stereotype is, it works in our advantage. Because we are percieved as fast paced city girls we are expected to be better at speaking up or going to work. Rather than being good in the kitchen or taking care of the house and while many of us can manage both expectations are less. Whew! what a weight of your shoulders when you aren't expected to be perfect.
This way your averageness brings about praise too.
